My Single Project is based on the changes that have occurred in London during the period 1800 to the present day through photography.
Collaboration theme
I will look at old London compared to the new London. I will only be covering one area of the city, either Stratford or Romford. The old images will be from a deco of 1800 that I will get from my local library and will going to visiting the exact location now to take pictures of the same place after number of years. I will try to take the pictures from the same angle and approximately the same time of the day. My images will show the transformation of my local area.
Technique/Process
I’ll be going out to various places to take pictures based on my theme. Pictures would be dissimilar in a sense of the way the places will look now but I will manipulate the old and new images using Photoshop to have an outcome of one image.
Photo manipulation is the technique to edit image in order to create a fantasy or deception.
Techniques I’ll be using for manipulation are as following:
Image combining
Image adding and subtracting
Merging images
Shape measures
Crop and scale
Colour manipulation- Black and White/ CMYK/RGB
Filters
Social and cultural implications
The increasing popularity of image manipulation has raised anxiety as to whether unrealistic images to be exposed to the public.
Article by Susan Sontag called "On Photography" (1977)[1]
“Photographs, which fiddle with the scale of the world, themselves get reduced, blown up, cropped, retouched, doctored and tricked out.”
The statement means that the manipulation ruins the originality of an image, depending on the audience some may like it and some may dislike the manipulation.
